This post will discuss my first tutorial on how to manipulate images through the use of editing tools such as photoshop. After 3 hours of constant work I became familiarised with the layout and tools in photoshop and began further experimentations. I specifically used the layer's feature to add a few more layers creating a new idea out of an old one.
Part of our Weekly assignments was to construct a third meaning from appropriate images found online. The idea behind it was to invoke a comment on a variety of subjects such as, social, political, gender identity, current affairs, celebrity, art, culture and more. I used the skills that I had gained from this tutorial to help create a piece contributing to this assignment.
The image above was created using a variety of different images from around the web, relating to popular culture. The original image was an old family portrait in black and white, with a crack running through the top horizontally. I cropped, and cut down different sections of each of these images to build the scene. Using layers made it easier to incorporate all of these images into one piece.
Furthermore I experimented more with using layers to create the image above. The image was originally based on just the black horse to the right, I then built the scene around this. Stallions are often determined to be strong creatures, and in a bibliographical sense, as the horses of the apocalypse. This image can provoke many interpretations, but primarily helped me to practice using the techniques I had learned in the tutorial.
